Rie's Pov
The next couple of days i kept seeing fairies everywhere!
At the bookshop
And at the spring festival that was in town right now.It hadn't been difficult for me to believe in these type of people. Camille on the other hand was in denial. Though i think i might have convinced her after we went to the Vampire Lounge. I wish we could find some vampires though. That would be awesome. To learn how they came about and if they are happy being who they are.
James' Pov
I knew exactly what i wanted to be. A doctor! I started out low and soon enough i was promoted to Paramedic. I was often called out to vaccinate the local citizens out on the streets. I met some interesting people. Like for example Michael Blanestreet whom was human.
And Violet Slymer, who was supposedly a ghost.
I knew that there were supernatural beings, or mystical creatures if you will, in this town. Rie had also told me all about her and Camille's little adventure to the lounge, but a ghost?! I hadn't expected that at all! I liked this town, but it unnerved me to see a ghost running around the city. Or floating would be a better term to use, i suppose. I guess we should all get used to these beings. One thing i wasn't sure about was Vampires. I guess seeing a ghost would make vampires more real, but to me it seemed impossible to live after death. I know i know, a ghost is also dead, but they aren't actually living. I don't even understand why she would need a vaccination since she is dead and NOT living! She is not living! She can't be. I guess i was still a little in denial. But can you blame me? Us? We come from a safe and secure environment where fairies and ghosts, even vampires, were part of fairy tales and stories you told little kids. Not something that existed in real life! And apparently this city is secluded from other cities. Should we really have moved here? Still i like the town and its people and maybe this was a good thing. It opens our eyes to new experiences and that there is a world beyond what we could ever imagine. These people lived their lives peacefully day by day beside one another, not even thinking about the differences between them and humans.
It is starting to sink in just now normal they think this town is, and just how magical we find it to be.
Back home Malinda and I had decided to try to get pregnant. Though there was one thing that was missing from the perfect picture.
As we were getting ready for bed, i pulled her aside and finally popped the question.
"Malinda. I don't know how to express how much i love you other than do this." I took out a little black box and opened it. "Will you marry me and make me the happiest person on earth?"
"Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god! Yes! Of course i will!"
I gently slid the ring onto her finger and we hugged tightly.
"So, you know we need some practice," I winked at her and gestured towards the bed.
"Let's do it!" She was totally psyched now. Understandably since our mutual dreams were about to happen.
We jumped on the bed and quickly got under covers. I must say it was probably the best woohoo i had ever had.
Afterwards we lay there holding each others hands, talking about the future.
"You know, we should probably get our own place soon," Malinda said, squeezing my hand.
"I know, but we can't afford it at the moment." Maybe getting pregnant wasn't the best idea right now, but i couldn't tell her that. She would be crushed.
"If you took two jobs we could sooner than later."
"I don't have time for it. I already work my butt off at the hospital. Couldn't you do it? Or we could ask my mother for help. I'm sure she wouldn't mind." I didn't like the idea about asking my mom for financial help, but i couldn't see any other option.
"Well we can try, but do you really think she can afford it?"
"I don't know but i guess it can't hurt to ask." My mom wasn't exactly young anymore. She had gotten older and i could tell that moving here, and not seeing Bernard anymore, had taken a toll on her. Her hair had gotten grey very fast and she didn't have that much strength anymore. Her eyesight was bad and she had gotten glasses the other day. It scared the hell out of me.
Camille's Pov
On Love Day we all went to the Spring Festival that was held in the towns park. Every year, just as in Riverview, there were held festivals in spring, summer, fall and winter. My mom started playing the guitar to earn some extra money in. I, on the other hand, went directly to the love meter. I didn't think i really needed a man at the moment, but i wanted to see what it said. "Burning!" it called my love life. Well that was a waste of money. This machine is either broken or part of some undefined scam by the festival people.
Rie in the mean time had went and got a face paint. And now she was yet again just standing around thinking about stuff... She did that often these days. I wonder what was going through her head.
It started to rain. My mom wouldn't be earning any money now, i was sure. We went home instead where i began working out on the treadmill.
Hans' Pov
Wow, she's beautiful! I wanted to talk to her, hear her voice, but how was i going to do that? I sucked at communicating with girls. Rie once told me just to be myself and say hi to new people. I could do this. I could do this. I walked over to her and said "Hi," She turned around and I was stunned. She was even prettier up close. "Do i know you?" she said smiling at me.
"Well, no not exactly," I had never been more nervous in my entire life. "I-I..." Drops of sweat sprang to life on my forehead.
"Ah," she said understandingly and smiled. "My name is Linda Rodgers." and she shook my hand.
"Hi. I'm Hans Holmberg. Nice to meet you." Then we just stood there, awkwardly looking at each other. "Well, bye." And i made a move to leave, when she grabbed my arm and said,"Hey do yo want to go grab a bite to eat? I'm starving and all alone here." We did so, and we ended up talking most of the night. "Come look at the stars with me." She pulled me outside onto the concrete floor."Look at that one!" I said pointing up at a tiny fleck of flight.
"That's beautiful! Do you know its name?"
"Ehm no..." Why didn't i know it?! I should read up on the stars so next time i knew the answer.
"Neither do i, but i like it." She took a breath and looked me in the eyes. "I like you. You seem honest and sweet and not like the idiots i usually date."
"Oh is-is this a date?"
"Yes silly," she giggled and kissed me on my cheek. My face turned red, but i didn't care. I was on a date! I never wanted this night to end.
"You know, since I'm all new to this town, maybe you could tell me a few things?"
"Like what?"
"My family and I have noticed some people around town with pale skin and some with wings. Is it true what they say about mystical creatures living here?"
"Yes."
I waited for her to say more, but she didn't.
"So, what is the deal with them?" I pressed on. This was a big topic of our family conversations.
"Why do you want to know?" She looked up at the sky while talking.
"It's just, someone in my family is into this. She wants to know more and meet some of these beings. Others are suspicious that it is something make believe and just people who dresses up early for halloween or something. We are torn between the two. We don't know what to believe."
She sighed. She was quiet for a bit, then said: "What I am about to tell you stays between me and you, okay?"
"Yes of course," I quickly promised, not realizing that I might not want to hear it all.
"A couple of years ago, i had just finished High School. One night I was hanging out with my older boyfriend at the schools playground when a couple of men came by. They talked in a strange language i hadn't heard before. When they saw us they came over and spoke to us. They asked for our names and where we lived. We didn't feel like telling them since it was not something you just tell strangers. So instead they started threatening us. They said that if we didn't tell them what they wanted to hear, they would hurt my boyfriend. We didn't believe them so we rejected them. That's when one of them took hold of my boyfriend and dragged him out into the street light. He bit him in the neck. I thought i was going to scream when he slowly fell to the ground, but not a sound escaped my lips. They asked me again where i lived, and this time i told them just to get them to leave. They looked at each other and then vanished into think air! I ran over to Daniel to check on him. He was breathing, but just barely. The man had left a strange mark on him. It looked like a biting mark, but not from any human. It was from two fangs. And that's when i realized it was the vampires. I too had heard rumors about them living in this town. I'm not from here either you see. I came from Sunset Valley ten years ago with my parents. I pulled him up and called a cab. We drove in silence to the hospital, while i held him in my arms, whispering to him not to leave me. He got admitted to the emergency room. They told me to leave him with them and so i went home. When I got home however, there was total darkness. The light wasn't working and no one answered me when i called out. It felt like one of those horror movies where then you find the whole room full of dead bodies. Instead though i found my parents in their bedroom. They were in a position that was not meant for sleeping. The vampires had been there and had drained the blood from their bodies. Their faces were completely white and their eyes bulged out of their sockets. It was like they were thrown onto the bed after the vampires were done with them. I couldn't take it. I ran screaming out of the house. People inside their homes came out when they heard me. When they saw my parents, they called the cops. One of the neighbors took me in and took care of me they days that passed. I was in chock! I didn't know what to believe or what to make of it all. I just knew i had lost both my parents and possibly my boyfriend in the same night. Daniel had somehow escaped from the hospital a couple of days later and i have never seen him since." Tears were falling down from her eyes. When she stopped talking i didn't know what to say. What was there really to say to that horror story she just told me? "That is horrible. I mean, i'm so so sorry for you. I'm sorry for asking, I didn't mean.. I feel like i pressured you to go through all that again."
She didn't look at me when she said: "It's fine, it's fine," then sniffled. "I should actually be getting home now. She's probably wondering where i am." When i looked puzzled she said: "I'm living with one of the neighbors that helped me back then. I've lived there ever since..." She didn't finish the sentence, but she didn't have to. I could almost feel the cool air course through my body, feeling much colder than normally.
"Let me follow you home. You shouldn't be out here by yourself this time at time. Especially since..." I didn't finish but she knew. She had always known.
I followed her home in a cab. I didn't know if these "monsters" could also be cab drivers. That story scared the hell out of me. Mental images of vampires and dead bodies ran through my head as we passed house by house on my way home.
Though as i lay in bed a little later, it wasn't the story that filled my head, it was the sweet voice of Linda Rodgers.
